A significant and long-term change in weather is expected. A low over the Mediterranean region and a Scandinavian low will unite over our area and become a distinct low-pressure area throughout the upcoming days. In the further sequence, a surge of cold air will reach the Alps from North Europe. A Mediterranean low with a foehny southerly wind in the mountains and larger cloud banks will be noticeable on Thursday. The low will be accompanied by unproductive snow showers which will reach the areas at 1000m above sea level. Dense clouds will prevail at the weekend, the temperatures will further cool down. Heavier snowfalls may fall especially on Saturday night. However, larger amounts of fresh snow are not expected throughout the upcoming days. These conditions will remain unchanged at the beginning of next week, only the wintry temperatures will further reinforce.
