Bavarian curling in the Paznaun

Bavarian curling is – especially in Austria – an incredibly popular pastime during the winter months and should definitely not be missing from your holiday in the Paznaun: Together with your family or during a thrilling game with your friends. Directly at the rink in Galtür, Ischgl and See there are sheets where the ice stocks can smoothly glide over the glossy surface of the ice towards the target.

For those who aren’t familiar with this special type of curling which is particularly popular in and around the Alps: here’s a little crash course for you that explains the basic rules and will have you get excited for your first game.

Gameplay

As already mentioned: the ice stock sport has some similarities to curling. The aim is to slide the ice stock over a 40-metre-long sheet of ice and to get as close as possible to the target – the so-called “Daube”. Team size varies from 4 to 20 players. But of course, fewer people can form a team during friendship games, too! However many are available … One game consists of 6 individual smaller games.

Scoring

The ice stock that comes to a halt closest to the “Daube” gets 3 points. If the next two nearest stocks are from the same team, that adds another two points each. If not, then two points each are subtracted.
