The first Silvretta-Pendelbahn aerial tramway

How it all began

The history of Silvrettabahn cable car goes back as far as 1963. The initial aerial tramway, which was put into operation on 15 December 1963, already reached its capacity limits in 1967. Boasting two cabins with space for 50 people each, the aerial tramway was only able to transport 312 people per hour, causing long waiting times.

1983–1998

Higher transportation capacity: Silvrettabahn monocable gondola lift

A new solution

In 1983, the aerial tramway was replaced by a 6-person monocable gondola lift. The new cable car had 180 cabins with space for 6 people each, making it possible to transport up to 2,400 passengers per hour. In 1998, this gondola lift was replaced by a new funitel cable car.
