Eye to eye with your childhood idols? Winter sports fans can now experience this in the ski resort in Ischgl. Because: the 26th snow sculpture competition was held this year from 7 to 11 January under the motto "Superheroes". The result of the nine pairs of international artists is spectacular: nine figures up to ten metres high with supernatural powers now reside in the Silvretta Arena. Among other things, you can see "the duel between Batman and Joker", as well as "Superman", "Spider Man" and "Wonder Woman" in impressive poses. The Ischgl jury chose the sculpture "The White Superman" as the winner, placing its creators Ivo Piazza and Reiner Kasslatter from Italy in first place. The sculptor Ivo Piazza is no stranger to Ischgl. His previous "Shapes in White" record: 26 participations with seven first, seven second and five third places. This year, too, the nine snow figures were created in just five days.
Superheroes as far as the eye can see
Nine superheroes, nine teams of artists from six countries and only one first place. For the Ischgl jury, the 26th "Shapes in White" snow sculpture competition also proved to be an agony of choice: "Every year we are impressed anew by the creative interpretations of the motto and the subsequent masterful realisation. Once again this year, the artists have outdone themselves with their snow heroes and made our choice very difficult," says Andreas Steibl from the Ischgl jury. The team Ivo Piazza and Reiner Kasslatter from Italy were the most popular with the jury in 2019 and were delighted to take first place with their interpretation of "Superman". Team Lorenz Demetz and Thomas Mussner from Italy came second with "Superheroine Mama". Third place went to Ivan Holzknecht and Armin Rifesser, also from Italy, with "Batman vs Joker".
