E-Bike World Championship proves a hit: more than 1,500 participants ensure a sold-out event

The popular E-Bike World Championship for All took place for the sixth time this year in Ischgl and Galtür. This unique format offers both amateur cyclists and ambitious athletes the chance to compete for a world title. In the Elite category, two Polish athletes, Marcin Bogdanski and Katerina Matysik, came out on top and secured the coveted titles.

In perfect conditions, more than 1,500 e-bikers from 37 nations took part in the E-Bike World Championship for All on Saturday. The sporting highlight was the ELITE race.

Success for Poland in the women’s and men’s events

In a field of competitors featuring a strong international line-up, athletes from Poland dominated the elite category in both the women’s and men’s events. In the women’s race, Katerina Matysik secured the world title, with South Tyrolean Barbara Oberdorfer and Germany’s Susanne Kienzle finishing in second and third place respectively. In doing so, she impressively underlined the strong presence of Polish riders at this year’s E-Bike World Championship.

In the men’s event, the result was incredibly close: in a thrilling sprint finish, Marcin Bogdanski from Poland edged out Switzerland’s Michael Lenherr by a mere 0.1 seconds. Third place went to Germany’s Daniel Klemme.

World champion in many categories

Under the motto “Anyone can become a world champion”, numerous titles were awarded across the various categories. Alongside the technically demanding Elite course and the ‘Everyone’ course, which is suitable for anyone aged ten and over, the ‘Everyone Advanced’ category has also established itself as an integral part of the race format. The large number of participants shows that this more challenging format is proving extremely popular with ambitious e-bike riders.

Celebrity enthusiasm at the E-Bike World Championship: Olympic champions, world champions and musicians take to the start line

Numerous well-known figures from the worlds of sport, radio and television were also present at the start. Alongside snowboard world champion Andreas Prommegger, enthusiastic participants included former national football player Walter “Schoko” Schachner, goalkeeping legend Otto Konrad, Super-G Olympic champion Sigrid Wolf and speed skating legend Michael Hadschieff.

Folk musician and presenter of “Mei liabste Weis”, Franz Posch, provided a truly special moment. Just before the start, he spontaneously grabbed the microphone and his accordion and, in keeping with the occasion, struck up “Ja, mir san mit’m Radl da”. After his musical interlude, he hopped on an e-bike himself and successfully completed the public category.

The event was organised by the E-Bike World Federation in collaboration with the Paznaun–Ischgl Tourist Board.

E-bike fox hunt as a sporting start to the season

The sporting curtain-raiser for the World Championship weekend took place as early as Thursday with the traditional e-bike ‘fox hunt’. For the fourth time, ÖSV cross-country skiing star Teresa Stadlober took on the role of the ‘fox’. Riding her road bike, she set off up to Idalp and faced a chase from more than 60 e-bikers. Stadlober put in a strong performance, reaching Idalp in a new record time. Only four participants managed to catch up with the top athlete on the way up. Stadlober also used her stay in Ischgl for additional training sessions on roller skis, combining the fun of the competition with her preparations for the season.

A varied programme of events

Even away from the race track, there was plenty on offer for everyone at the E-Bike World Championship. Participants and visitors were treated to a varied programme centred on e-bikes. At the heart of the event was the large E-Bike EXPO, featuring well over 40 exhibitors from the international cycling scene. The EXPO Fun Challenge tested participants’ skill and riding technique, whilst the grand raffle offered the chance to win attractive prizes. The top prize was a high-quality e-bike from Simplon, the cycling partner of the Paznaun–Ischgl region.

Bike to Help: The E-Bike World Championship supports a good cause

The social aspect was also well represented at the E-Bike World Championship. Under the motto “Bike to Help”, a cycling group from Germany raised a total of 3,250 euros for Kinderkrebshilfe Tirol. In addition, a donation box was set up in the registration area, where participants and visitors could make a voluntary contribution. The Paznaun–Ischgl Tourist Board also supported the initiative and, in keeping with the spirit of the E-Bike World Championship, donated one euro per participant. In this way, the event combined sporting endeavour with social commitment whilst sending a strong message in support of a good cause.

The E-Bike World Championship for Everyone will take place again from 2–4 September 2027.
