A brilliant start to the winter season: the US band Gossip, led by the fascinating and highly unusual front woman Beth Ditto, fired up the 20,000 fans who had travelled from home and abroad to the Top of the Mountain Opening Concert. With a brilliant and loud performance, the quirky singer got the mountains shaking and opened the 2010/11 winter season in the Silvretta Skiarena in Ischgl at the same time.
The powerful-voiced front woman and Karl Lagerfeld muse Beth Ditto took the hearts of the countless ski enthusiasts in Ischgl by storm on Saturday: together with her band Gossip, she gave one of the already legendary Top of the Mountain Opening Concerts on the show stage in the centre of the village. The indie rock post-punk band thrilled their fans with the power and intensity of their self-confident performance. Even before the rocking Beth Ditto started her first song, the spark was ignited and the cheering crowd was devoted to her. The lively style icon was musically supported by her band mates Nathan Howdeshell (bass/guitar) and Hannah Blilie (drums), who fired up the fans with well-known hits such as "Heavy Cross" and "Love Long Distance".
On the piste during the day, at the concert in the evening
Winter sports enthusiasts in Ischgl ventured onto the slopes the day before, as skiing started on Friday 26 November. And with the best snow conditions and many new features in the ski area. The new "Lange Wand Bahn", a detachable 6-seater chairlift with a modern Ischgl look and a globally unique black chair design, takes piste freaks up to the highest elevation in the Silvretta Arena at 2,850 metres in just 5.6 minutes. And it's more comfortable than ever, as the "Lange Wand Bahn" offers maximum comfort with heated seats.
