A spectacular end to the Festival Opening Week in Ischgl: on 1 December 2012, German cult rock band The Scorpions fired up 13,000 fans with mega hits at the Top of the Mountain Opening Concert. In cooperation with Volkswagen, the Alpine lifestyle metropolis organised an entire opening week for the first time under the motto "The Golf moves the mountains", which offered an open-air concert series with megastars such as Amy Macdonald and DJ Antoine in addition to adventure rides in the new Golf.
The Festival Opening Week in Ischgl reached its climax with the Scorpions concert on 1 December 2012: at the Top of the Mountain Opening Concert, the five rockers transformed the Alpine lifestyle metropolis into a true "rock zone". The German cult rock band made their debut in Ischgl in front of 13,000 spectators. Fans had travelled from home and abroad to be carried away by the Scorpions' top hits in the evening after a perfect day of skiing in the Silvretta Arena on 238 kilometres of pistes. The five-piece rocked the open-air stage in front of an impressive mountain backdrop just as well as they did 30 years ago. At their Ischgl debut, the band harmonised perfectly and sparkled with rock passion - even after almost half a century.
Festival opening week with four concerts and adventure rides in the snow
With their performance, the Scorpions provided a brilliant finale to the Festival Opening Week, which featured international megastars such as Amy Macdonald, DJ Antoine and wingenfelder:Wingenfelder. Ischgl also offered a top-class supporting programme in cooperation with Volkswagen under the motto "The Golf moves the mountains". Courageous guests were able to take a test drive in the new Golf and try out the model under extreme conditions on the prepared test tracks. The festival opening week ended on a rocking note with one of the last concerts by the Scorpions. After their successful world tour this year, the five rock musicians want to end their career after 47 years of band history. "The festival opening week was a real success. The season has never been opened on such a grand scale.
Best piste conditions during the day - world-class entertainment in the evening
The ski area in Ischgl opened earlier than ever before this year. From 23 November, skiers and snowboarders were able to storm the freshly groomed slopes of the Silvretta Arena and discover 238 kilometres of pistes for themselves. Thanks to the "iSki Ischgl APP", there's no more getting lost in the Silvretta Arena. But that's not all: if you want to track your exciting day in the Ischgl ski area in the evening, you can use the GPS tracking function to record your skiing day directly on your smartphone and then view information such as maximum speed, kilometres covered, distance or duration in Google Earth or on the Ischgl 3-D map.
