Paznaun Challenge

Track & win

From 18th June to 17th October 2021, active vacationers can duel in the Paznaun Challenge every day. By mountain bike or on foot, you can use GPS to take you to selected race tracks to optimally prepare for the Ischgl Ironbike Marathon, E-Bike World Cup for everyone, Silvrettarun 3000 or Silvretta Ferwall March. Anyone can take part, regardless of whether they are an amateur or professional athlete, the app and participation is free of charge.

The cool thing is: EVERY participant who tracks the route completely has the chance of high-quality prizes in every discipline at the end of the season.

How to: Paznaun Challenge

  • Download and register the ‘Paznaun Challenge’ app
  • Select discipline (mountain biking & e-biking, trail running, hiking)
  • Select your route
  • The starting point for the Silvretta Run, Ironbike and E-Bike World Championship Challenge is the Silvrettaplatz right next to the Silvretta cable car in Ischgl
  • For the Silvretta Ferwall Marsch, the start is at the information office on Dorfplatz, No. 39 in Galtür
  • At the start point, press the start button for the selected route. And off you go – time’s ticking!
  • At the end of the tour, quickly press the button to stop the clock
  • Compare yourself to other participants via the rankings list on the app

Sport disciplines & routes

At the Silvrettarun 3000 participants can choose between two routes - 'Small' and 'Light'.

'Small' route:

  • Details: 11.20 km | 306 m total ascent | 76 m total descent
  • Course: Start Ischgl Silvrettaplatz – Dorfstraße – Stöckwaldweg – Mathon – Waldkapelle – Tschaffein – Galtür – Finish Sports and Culture Centre in Galtür
  • Route composition in percentages: Trail: 5.36 % | Forest trail: 48.21 % | Asphalt: 46.43 %
  • Description: The Silvrettarun 'Small' route is ideal for beginners and occasional runners, since it does not present a particularly difficult challenge, covering 11 km and a medium level of 300 m ascent. The route links the two towns of Ischgl and Galtür, taking in the loveliest paths (asphalt, forest trail and gravel).

'Light' route:

  • Details: 19.36 km | 873 m total ascent | 643 m total descent
  • Course: Start Ischgl Silvrettaplatz – Dorfstraße – Stöckwaldweg – Mathon – Inneres Bergli – Lareinalpe – Tschaffein – Galtür – Finish Sports and Culture Centre in Galtür
  • Route composition in percentages: Trail: 31.40 % | Forest trail: 46.70 % | Asphalt: 21.9 %
  • Description: The 'Light' route of Silvrettarun 3000 is ideal for ambitious leisure-oriented runners. To start off there is a leisurely section to Mathon, from where the ascent to the 'Bergli' starts. Those who prefer, can factor in a a 10 minute detour to wonderful Berglisee - one of the loveliest places in Paznaun. The route proceeds down on flowing trails to Lareinalpe, from where it is forest trails back to Galtür again.

For the Ischgl Ironbike participants can choose from two routes - Light and Medium.

Light route:

  • Details: 26.1 km / 1060m total ascent / 1060m total descent
  • Course: Start Ischgl Silvrettaplatz – Dorfstraße Hotel Kristall – hamlet of Paznaun –  Mathon Wildlife Park – Larain – Stafali Weiher – Tschaffein – Mathon – towards Friedrichshafner Hütte – Single-trail section to Mathon – Mini-Golf Ischgl - across Trisanna bridge - Finish Ischgl Silvrettaplatz
  • Description: From the starting point for the Silvrettaseilbahn, proceed through the village and head for Hotel Kristall crossing the B188, passing the hamlet of Paznaun, until you come to the civic amenity site. The underpass on the left-hand side takes you to the cycle path heading for the Wildlife Park and up into beautiful Larein. A forest trail passes a hidden pond up to Tschaffein. Now proceed back to Mathon, from where there is a section up to Friedrichshafner Hütte. After a second sharp bend, a single-trail proceeds via an area of heavily root-strewn surface (above Mathon) back to Ischgl to the start/finish area.

Medium route:

  • Details: 45.3 km / 2395 m total ascent/ 2403 m total descent
  • Course: Same as the 'Light' route, up to the mini-golf course – over Trisanna bridge – river path - Ischgl church – Hotel Valülla – ramp towards the Idalp – Velillscharte – Prennerhang - finish Ischgl Silvrettaplatz
  • Description: For the ambitious mountain bikers out there among you, things really get going at the end of the 'Light' route. The start is the same, only on the return leg from Mathon to Ischgl, you do not go back to the start/finish area, but instead bear right and head up to the Idalp. Your thighs will likely be burning here, but you just need to grin and bear it until you get to the Velillscharte. The route then proceeds via flowing trails down the Prennerhang and back to Silvrettaplatz.

E-Bike Route World Cup for Everyone:

  • Details: 25.2 km / 1006 m total ascent / 1006 m total descent
  • About this Route:  Ischgl – Galtür - Ischgl
    Start Ischgl Silvretta Car Park – Persuttweg - Village Road – Zollhof – Fimbaweg - Stöckwaldweg – Sawmill – Mathon Wildlife Park – forest chapel– Larain – Stafali pond – Galtür/Tschafein – Sonnkogel themed trail – Galtür Außertschafein – Piel – Valzur – Fallbedali - Außer Riefabach - Mathon – hamlet of Paznaun – Ischgl Spa – End Ischgl Silvretta Car Park
  • Route Description: The start/finish area is the Silvretta East Car Park at the Silvretta Cable Car in Ischgl. From there, the route leads via the Persuttweg and the village road to the Hotel Valülla. The ascent then continues along the asphalted ramp (Fimbaweg) until the turnoff for Stöckwald. You'll pass the Ischgl forest bathing lake and sawmill on a forest trail through the picturesque Stöckwald until reaching the recycling yard. On the asphalted valley cycle path, you'll continue on towards the beautiful Trisanna river to the Mathon wildlife park. From there, a forest trail heads into the forest, up to the forest chapel and then towards Larein. Before the Lareinalpe, take the turnoff for Galtür, follow the forest trail, past the Stafali Weiher lake and then down towards Galtür/Tschafein, in order to cross the B188. From Galtür/Außertschafein, branch off on a service path and cycle via Piel and Valzur until just before Mathon. At this point, the route heads left along a forest trail. At the highest point, the path goes down to the river crossing at Riefa Bach. After the crossing, continue along the forest trail towards Mathon and the Ischgl recycling yard. From there, cycle along an asphalted service path, via the hamlet of Paznaun back to the start/finish area in Ischgl.

For the Silvretta Ferwall March, there are four routes for hiking fans to choose from: the Family route, the Silvretta route, the Ferwall route and the Marathon route.

Family-route:

  • Details: 13.5 km | + 150m ascent (+ Alpkogelbahn ascent)
  • Suitable for prams
  • Course: Start Galtür village square – Wirl – Alpkogelbahn – Kops reservoir wall – Zeinisjoch – Wirl – Finish Sports and Culture Centre in Galtür
  • Route outline: From Galtür head initially to Wirl, ascent on the Alpkogelbahn, continue across Kops reservoir wall to the Zeinisjoch and back to Galtür. The Silvretta family route is a fantastic experience, particularly for children! THE BEST THING ABOUT IT: the route is suitable for prams

Silvretta-route:

  • Details: 19.2 km | + 618m ascent
  • Course: Start Galtür village square – Wirl – Zeinisjoch – Kops reservoir wall – Breitspitze – Alpkogelbahn – Wirl – Finish Sports and Culture Centre in Galtür
  • Route outline: After the start at the village square, head to Wirl. From there, continue via the Zeinisjoch and then along the reservoir wall up to the Breitspitze. From the summit cross, head back to the Alpkogelbahn and straight to the finish

Ferwall-route:

  • Details: 32.7 km | + 1199m ascent
  • Course: Start Galtür village square – Wirl – Zeinisjoch – Heilbronnerhütte – Grieskogeljoch – Friedrichshafenerhütte – Tschaffein – Maaswald – Finish Sports and Culture Centre in Galtür
  • Route outline: To start with, proceed from Galtür to Wirl, from there continue via the  Zeinisjoch, pass Verbella Alpe and head up to Heilbronner Hütte. Then proceed via the Grieskogeljoch, continuing to Friedrichshafener Hütte. After the descent to Tschaffein, proceed via the altitude path to the finish.

Marathon-route:

  • Details: 42.195 km | + 1955m ascent
  • Course: Start Galtür village square – Wirl – Zeinisjoch – Heilbronnerhütte – Grieskogeljoch – Friedrichshafenerhütte – Tschaffein – Larainalpe – Stafali Weiher – Jamtal – Finish Sports and Culture Centre in Galtür
  • Route outline: From Galtür to Wirl, via the Zeinisjoch, passing Verbella Alpe to get to Heilbronner Hütte. Then via the 2698 metre Grieskogeljoch to Friedrichshafner Hütte. Descent to Tschafein and along the hiking path to Loreinalpe. From there, the path proceeds via the altitude path, straight to the finish
