ISCHGL: ROXETTE MAKES SKI OPENING A ‘JOYRIDE’!
On 26 November 2011, Roxette will be marking the start of the winter season with their world-famous catchy tunes such as ‘The Look’, ‘Sleeping in my car’ and ‘Joyride’ at the legendary Top of the Mountain Opening Concert. Admission to the concert is free with a valid ski pass.
“It all begins where it ends” – this famous line from Roxette’s global hit ‘Joyride’ is perfect for the opening of the new winter season in Ischgl on 26 November 2011. After all: the legendary Top of the Mountain Opening Concert in Ischgl picks up where it left off at the start of May: with freshly prepared mountain pistes and global stars on the open-air stage. While ‘The Killers’ rocked the stage to mark the season finale, the Swedish pop band Roxette will be performing catchy hits such as ‘Listen to your heart’, ‘Sleeping in my car’, ‘Crash, Boom, Bang’ and the mega-hit ‘Joyride’ to some 20,000 fans at the start of the new winter season. The pop duo consists of Per Gessle and Marie Fredriksson (who has been named the best singer a total of 3 times in Sweden) and they impress with ‘The Look’ as well as their world-famous texts and melodies to create a relaxed atmosphere to sing along to. The concert begins at 19:00. No tickets are required – admission is free for all winter sports enthusiasts with a valid 2-day ski pass.
Impatient skiers can take to the pistes in this Alpine lifestyle metropolis before the concert starts as the ski season begins in Ischgl on Friday 25 November – complete with the best snow conditions, 238 km of well prepared pistes, 44 lifts and plenty of interesting new features at the resort.
‘Sleeping in my car’ will not be necessary after the Top of the Mountain Opening Concert: from 24. to 27.11.2011, 3 nights with breakfast in a category of your choice can be booked along with a 3 day VIP ski pass for Ischgl / Samnaun and admission to the Opening Concert on 26.11.2011 from just 199 euros per person at www.ischgl.com.
Royal recognition for Swedish pop
Swedish artists Per Gessle and Marie Fredriksson founded the pop band Roxette in 1986. Their international breakthrough came in 1989 with the global hit ‘The Look’. This was followed by 70 million record sales worldwide and numerous catchy hits such as ‘Spending my time’, ‘Listen to your heart’, ‘Sleeping in my car’, ‘Crash, Boom, Bang’ and ‘Joyride’. Even today, Roxette remains Sweden’s biggest music export after ABBA. In 2006, a greatest hits album was released to mark the band’s 20th anniversary. In the same year, Roxette was awarded a medal of honour by the Swedish royal family for their services to music as one of the most successful pop bands of the 1980s and 90s. Following an extensive break from the creative scene, the band made a long-awaited comeback in 2009. In 2011, the single ‘She’s got nothing on (but the radio)’ was released from the album ‘Charm School’, making the top 10 in many charts. The album went straight to number 1 in the German charts. Given their extensive success, it is little wonder that Roxette were asked to perform at the gala evening following the marriage of Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden and Daniel Westling. It soon became clear that Roxette were back and have lost nothing of their light and youthful tone. In making their Ischgl debut at the Top of the Mountain Opening Concert, Roxette will join the ranks of international superstars such as Katy Perry, Rihanna, Leona Lewis, the Pussycat Dolls and Gossip. Their performance in this Alpine lifestyle metropolis forms part of their current world tour of 2011/12.
Latest news from the pistes of Ischgl
On the pistes, Ischgl will be offering guests plenty of interesting new features following the ‘Joyride’ of 25 November 2011: winter skiers will be able to enjoy enhanced comfort during the winter season of 2011/12 thanks to the new 6-seater chair lift: the new family chairlift ‘Sonnenbahn B5’ comes with an easy-to-use restraining bar locking system and replaces the Sonnenlift.
