Ischgl Ironbike 2012

Ischgl Ironbike - experience a unique mountain bike event

Ischgl Ironbike, das Mountainbike-Event in Tirol
Ischgl Ironbike

The time has come again: Ischgl stages the mountain bike highlight of the year, the Ischgl Ironbike. Now already for the 18th Ischgl is host to one of the toughest mountain bike marathons in Europe. International top pros and ambitious hobby riders will be fighting for a total of 20,000 Euro in prize money. That makes the Ischgl Ironbike the mountain bike marathon with the highest prize money in Europe.

The course concept of the Ischgl Ironbike is sure to satisfy all riders. Participants can choose between three different course lengths, even while the race is already underway. The short circuit with a length of 27 kilometres and 750 metres in elevation gain can be completed by any hobby biker who wants to sniff some competitive atmosphere. Things get more challenging beginning with the medium distance. The ascent to the Idalpe may be paved, but is steep and very strength-sapping. The continued ascent along the gravel road up to the Vellilscharte is a true challenge even for very fit bikers, going uphill all the way with an elevation gain of more than 1,200 meters. The ensuing descent through the Vellil valley on the super trail designed by mountain bike legend Hans Rey, makes you forget the struggle of the ascent: 1,200 meters altitude difference all the way down to the finish line in Ischgl. The medium circuit has a total distance of 48 kilometres and 2,050 metres in altitude difference.

For all those for whom this is still not enough, the Ischgl Ironbike offers an even bigger circuit. The circuits branch off each other above the Idalpe, with the long circuit continuing up to the Idjoch and on to the Greitspitze. At an altitude of 2,800 metres, this is where the Greitspitztrail begins, a challenging single-trail with stunning alpine panoramas. The subsequent Salaaser Trail offers ultimate biking fun. The course continues down to Samnaun and, with a long ascent across the Zeblas Yoke, all the way to the Palinkopf, again at almost 2,800 meters altitude. The descent to Ischgl is interrupted by another two short but crisp climbs. After a total of 79 kilometres and 3,800 meters in altitude gain, the heroes of the Ischgl Ironbike cross the finish line completely exhausted.

All through the Ironbike Weekend from 3 - 5 August 2012, a busy mountain bike programme takes place in Ischgl.

The premium partner Cannondale, for example, presents a large expoarea with the latest bikes.

On Friday 3rd August at 17:30, the starting signal for the Ischgl Palio sounds, the attractive short sprint in the town centre, during which the audience can get close up with the top stars of the mountain bike community. In several heats, the quickest pros qualify for the finals offering 2,400 Euro in prize money. The big festival tent with pasta party rounds off the first evening.

The Ischgl Ironbike 2012 starts on Saturday at 8:30, and at 17:30 the great victory ceremony is held, followed by a tent party.

The tourism association of Paznaun-Ischgl and the entire organisation team of the Ischgl Ironbike welcome all participants and guests to the Ironbike 2012.
