Bike tours in the Tyrolean mountains

Bike tours in the Tyrolean mountains
MTB Downhill

Enduro bikers are all-round cyclists. Ascents on a logging road? Descents on a single-trail? Challenging vertrides? No problem... Cycling up a mountain is a matter of honour for some enduro bikers. Perhaps you prefer the cable car during your holidays in Austria?

The most important thing is having fun with your friends and enjoying the pristine nature of the Tyrolean Alps. Attractive bike tours in the Tyrolean mountains are waiting for you at the legendary Bike Arena Ischgl-Samnaun mountain bike region. The Smuggler's Freeride for instance, a cable car tour with legendary single-trails from Greitspitze mountain to Velilltal valley. Or would you like to have some time on your own on the long, solitary but extremely beautiful Muttenjoch Ridge tour via the Heilbronner Hütte and Friedrichshafener Hütte chalets with winding single-trails along the Valzurbach mountain river? Experience the Austrian Alps on various bike tours in the Tyrolean mountains in Ischgl bike region.

Red Tour Nr. 15, Paznauner Taja

Are you looking for a challenge? Ascend to the Idalpe Alpine pasture via the steep Prennerhang slope and the tarmac road with an incline of 20% on your bike instead of taking the Silvrettaseilbahn cable car. 20 kilometres and a difference in altitude of 1,100 metres is nothing to sneeze at! An attractive super-trail descends from the Idalp Alpine pasture. Attention: the grass is often moist and there may be slippery wooden planks on your trail. A good sense of balance is required. Push your bike the short but steep distance from Höllboden to the Sassgalun Kopf mountain, from where the Soul-Trail will take you down the mountain to a dairy station. From there a gravel trail will take you to the Paznauner Taja Alpine chalet. Again you will be spoilt for choice: there is a steep trail to the Bodenalpe Alpine pasture for enduro enthusiasts and a gravel road for holidaymakers on two wheels, before taking trails or the tarmac road past the middle station of the cable car back to Ischgl.

Black Tour Nr. 8, Friedrichshafener Hütte Alpine chalet

This is one of the enduro tours in Tyrol perfectly suited for all enduro fans looking for fantastic trails after a strenuous ascent. Overcome a difference of 700 metres on a long, winding gravel road with many exciting hairpin bends. Indulge in a hearty snack, a tasty slice of cake and the marvellous view from the Friedrichshafener Hütte Alpine Chalet as a reward. The views of the Silvretta mountain range are simply breathtaking. The trail back down to the valley demands all your skill on the mountain bike, especially in the difficult middle section (there is a logging road as an alternative for tired cyclists), before gliding down the last section to Mathon.

Black Tour Nr. 23, Velill trail

The perfect tour for enduro enthusiasts. Take the cable car to the Velillscharte where a trail highlight is waiting for you: the Velill trail enhanced by the Trailsolutions designer and Vertrider legend Christian Piccolruaz. Enjoy gliding around beautiful bends. At the Velillalpe it is time for a decision: would you like to take on the challenging, strenuous trail along the Velillbach mountain river or do you prefer speeding downhill on the gravel road to the Prennerhang slope? There is a tour for every mountain bike taste in the Velilltal valley. You will be spoilt for choice by the wonderful mountain bike tours in the Tyrolean mountains.

Black Tour Nr. 21, Alptrida Alpine pasture

OK, let's skip the ascent to the Idjoch ridge on your bike. The difference in altitude of 1,582 metres is quite daunting. If you are not in peak physical condition the beautiful trail is no fun at all. We even skip the ascent to the summit of Greitspitze mountain on the Alptrida trail but whizz down a cool, not too long trail that demands all your cycling skill. Shortly before the mountain station of the Samnaun cable car you get to a gravel trail leading to the Alp Trida Alpine pasture. From there a chair lift will take you to the Flimjoch ridge. Take some time to relax and indulge in the views before mastering the Velillscharte on the Velill trail on your bike. 'Soul and flow' is the motto of this trail - indulge in a roller-coaster feeling riding on your mountain bike! Save your strength to really enjoy the strenuous trail along the Velillbach mountain river that demands a perfect mastery of your mountain bike. Of course there is always the option of taking the gravel road (Tour 23).

Black Tour Nr. 22, Smuggler's Tour

It is almost a pity that most enduro bikers are no great fans of liquor. If they were a trip to the Samnanun valley in Switzerland would truly pay off - as there is the opportunity for tax-free shopping and 'smuggling' the goods back into the EU. But as the customs officers in Ischgl have a close eye on such shenanigans - why not 'get drunk' on the joy of enduro biking on a fantastic trail? From the Idjoch ridge on the Greitspitz and Salaaser trails to Samnaun valley! Take a ride in the unique double-storey cable car back to the Alp Trida Alpine pasture, the chair lift to the Flimjoch ridge and the Velill trail (Tour 23) back to Ischgl. One of the most beautiful enduro bike tours in the Tyrolean mountains with a difference in altitude of 530 metres it is feasible even for those in a medium physical condition.
