Top Bikers in Ischgl
Ischgl as a bike resort for the biggest stars
Every summer season, the big names grace the bike scene with their presence at the mountain biking resort of Ischgl. Bike stars come for a private MTB holiday, train here in Tyrol, take part in the Ischgl Ironbike or help to upgrade trails.
Hans „no way“ Rey
Hans Rey is considered a bike icon. There is very little that he hasn’t done: A stuntman, show rider and trial pro, he recently also began doing expeditions and freeriding. He earned his nickname “no way” by mastering sections considered unrideable, and many times, too. Hans Rey headed to the USA from Europe and became a celebrated superstar there. At the closing ceremonies of the 1996 Olympic Games, he performed his tricks in front of billions of television viewers. Ischgl secured his know-how. As the director of the single trail network, Hans Rey is significantly involved in the constant upgrading of bike routes.
Wade Simmons
Wade Simmons, one of the most famous bikers in the world, has put Ischgl’s single trails to the test. Tales of super-long freeride routes have followed him all the way to North America. The fact that he also comes to Ischgl and is very enthusiastic about it is evidence of Ischgl’s quality as a single trail paradise. Lastly, Wade Simmons is considered one of the inventors of freeriding. He demonstrated his riding style, which was considered unsurpassable by the rest of the bike world, in the Rocky Mountains. With video appearances, his victory at the first Big Mountain Freeride World Championship (Red Bull Rampage) and his personable nature, he embodies freeriding like no one else.
Karl Platt
Mountain bike racing events are Karl Platt’s preferred stomping ground. He dominated the Ischgl Ironbike in 2005 and 2006. At the Transalp Challenge, which was held in Ischgl in 2008 as well, he has shown since 2001 that he is the measure of all things. With the exception of one second-place and one third-place finish, he has won every single year. However, Karl Platt not only excels at marathon and stage racing. He has also had remarkable success in various cross-country disciplines. Since becoming the German junior downhill champion in 1996, his list of successes has been getting longer and more international every year. Intense training in all weather conditions is one of the reasons that he is so strong.
