Race – Mountain Bike Racing
Mountain biking as a competition and event – race bikers train their bodies looking forward to a certain day on which they need to be in the best physical shape possible. Ischgl has its very own place in the racing scene with a marathon of a race - the Ischgl Ironbike.
Mountain bike fans, recreational bikers, sports bikers and professional bikers from all over the world flock to Ischgl in early August every year. They come to attend one of the most acclaimed and most popular MTB marathons in the world. The Ischgl Ironbike has evolved into a classic on every race calendar. The three routes offer committed mountain bikers of every skill level an amazing challenge.
Another race event highlight in Ischgl is the Bike Transalp Challenge. This race, which consists of several stages, takes place in mid July. The Paznaun Valley actually hosts one of the stages, possibly the most critical. After all, the race participants start in Ischgl to cross the main range of the Alps – the core of every Transalp. Ischgl offers three possible routes to cross the Alps. The Fimber Pass is one of the most popular trails to take in the entire eastern Alps.
Race disciplines in Ischgl:
- Stage race – Transalp Challenge with Ischgl as a stage finish
- Marathon race – Ischgl Ironbike
Many highly skilled sports and professional bikers return to Ischgl year after year for the entire summer season. There is a good reason for that: these masters appreciate the ideal training environment Ischgl offers for either one of the two major races that take place here, but also for many other disciplines that are part of the mountain bike racing scene. Obviously, this also has a lot to do with the fact that the chief planner in charge of the venue for single trails in Ischgl is the legendary Hans “no way” Rey.
