Surrounded by stunning peaks, the idyllic mountain villages of Kappl and See offer superb skiing at up to 2,700 metres above sea level. Extensive ski areas and unbeatable conditions make for a memorable winter experience for the whole family.
Kappl: award-winning family ski resort
The Kappl ski area was awarded bronze in the "family ski area" category by winter sports experts from ADAC (the German Automobile Association) and a top class jury of experts. Boasting 40 kilometres of slopes, the Kappl ski area is a true paradise for all winter sports enthusiasts. Wide slopes and downhill runs catering to all abilities offer superb skiing, with nine lifts whisking skiers and snowboarders up to 2,690 metres' altitude. All of which means that the ski area is not only one of the most beautiful in Tyrol - it's also one of the best in the entire Silvretta ski region.
Synchro Ski World Cup in Kappl
The Synchro Ski World Cup will be a special highlight of this winter season. It is set to take place in the Kappl ski area on Friday, 5 February 2010. Two-man teams will compete against each other in two rounds and the world champions will be announced at the end of the tour.
Sunny Mountain Restaurant
Situated at 1,830 metres above sea level, the Sunny Mountain Restaurant offers culinary delights and plenty more besides. A self-service restaurant with a large choice of food and beverages, a supervised kindergarten, a ski kindergarten and a special kids' restaurant with a children's toilet are just some of the many handy services offered for the whole family. There's never a dull moment, thanks to the great supporting programme and array of live events with entertainment for young and old alike. There are also scores of huts tempting visitors to stop off for a bite to eat and offering the very best Tyrolean treats.
Sunny Mountain Adventure Park
The Sunny Mountain Adventure Park will make any child jump for joy. Under expert supervision, the little ones are taught how to move on skis - in an unrushed and fun fashion. For the young racers among them, there are moguls and wavy terrain to master. The children's practice area was expanded last winter to include an additional zone above the Sunny Mountain Lake. There, children can enjoy themselves to their hearts' content.
But the Adventure Park offers plenty for adults too. A winter tubing run gives thrill-seekers a real adrenalin rush, while others can enjoy the snowy scenery on numerous hiking trails around the Sunny Mountain Lake.
Flaxi and Wusel - the mascots A big adventure park needs someone to take care of things and put the young guests in a good mood. The mountain imp Flaxi and his friend Wusel the badger accompany the children through the exciting world of play in the Sunny Mountain Park and have some great adventures with the little ones. The two companions tell the story of how they came to Kappl and the adventures they had along the way in some new children's books. The children can meet a life-sized Flaxi in the park too, of course. Visit www.sunnymountain.at to find out more.
Enjoy a true winter's fairytale in See
The first-class skiing conditions, welcoming attitude to families and unbeatable value for money attract locals and guests alike to the ski area in See. 33 kilometres of slopes catering to all abilities ensure that a great time is had by all - whether beginners or advanced skiers. A six-seater cable car takes winter sports fans up to the ski area straight from the centre of the village. Eight lifts and cable cars travel up to 2,450 metres above sea level. Snowboarders and skiers will love the moguls and fun park. Like the guest kindergarten with its spacious practice area, the cable car prices are also designed with families in mind. The restaurant in the ski area, which boasts a large sun terrace and an ice bar, is the perfect place to relax and have a bite to eat after a great day on the slopes.
The six-kilometre natural toboggan run, which is floodlit twice weekly, is a very special experience. The panorama run is also illuminated twice a week, offering skiers and snowboarders the unique opportunity of tackling the extensive and well-groomed piste by floodlight.
With their lively music, the countless après-ski venues offer a great atmosphere for a sociable evening after a day's skiing.
Snowshoe treks and ski tours
The Paznaun Valley has plenty to offer away from the slopes too. Enjoy the unique flair and breathtaking snow-covered Alps on snowshoe treks through the mountains. Explore the pristine outdoors with the whole family - a great alternative to skiing and tobogganing.
For experienced winter sports enthusiasts, the region offers a huge array of options for breathtaking ski tours. Scale Tyrol's peaks with qualified guides and climb up to the most beautiful vantage points with views over Paznaun's mountain landscape.
Countless well-groomed hiking trails also make for memorable and romantic winter walks.
