Wanderbutz
Mystical and rousing – Ischgl's Wanderbutz
You are probably asking yourself: "What on earth is a Wanderbutz?" You can learn everything about the myths and stories of the Butze and what they have to do with you and your hiking holiday in Ischgl here ...
Paznaun has more myths associated with it than any other valley in the whole of Tyrol. From time immemorial there have been stories of the wandering spirits of herdsmen. The stories of the restless souls have also inspired the Ischgl Tourism Association. The Butze now live on in another form, namely that of a badge for all ambitious hikers. You can take a coveted hiking badge home with you from your hiking holiday in Ischgl - the Wanderbutz.
Here's what you need to do to win one of these coveted badges: simply do as many hiking tours as possible in the Silvretta, Samnaun, and Verwall group and collect points while doing so. Three different Wanderbutz hiking badges are available: Bronze for 18 points, Silver for 36 points and Gold for 54 points. The "Golden Wanderbutz" is topped only by the "Gold in Mountain Pine Wreath", which is awarded for three golds in three years. You receive the coveted points in the form of a stamp at each hut you visit. All you then need to do is hand the hut booklet into either the Tyrolean State Tourist Office in Ischgl or one of the local offices of the Paznaun-Ischgl Tourist Association in See, Kappl, Galtür or Ischgl. Before you go hunting for points, the hut booklet can also be obtained from the same places.
So, what are you waiting for - start hiking and earn your own personal Wanderbutz! The right hiking hotel to suit your needs in Ischgl can be booked online here.
