PILGRIMAGE CHAPEL - UNTERPARDATSCH

The pilgrimage chapel dedicated to the Seven Sorrows of Mary was built in Unterpardatsch in 1676 in an idyllic clearing on the old path to the Fimba Valley and close to a sawmill. It was built by Christian Zangerl, an innkeeper from Ischgl, to honour the Sorrows of Mary, Mother of God. The focal point of the chapel is the sacred image of Our Lady of the Seven Sorrows by Josef Schöpf (1745-1822) from Telfs.

CHAPEL OF ST ANNA

The chapel of St Anna at Boden was built in 1610 and is the oldest officially mentioned chapel in the Paznaun today. An altar painting dating from the second half of the 17th century adorns this simple turreted building.

CHAPEL OF THE THREE KINGS

This single-bay chapel with a circular apse dates from 1818. The interior is plainly decorated. The stucco ornamentation above the triumphal arch, the round arched windows and a Madonna dating from the mid-17th century by Michael Lechleitner are of particular mention.

CHAPEL OF OUR LADY OF THE SNOWS

The largest chapel in the parish of Ischgl is the chapel of Our Lady of the Snows in Pasnatsch. It was built in 1643 and extended in 1708. The impressive high altar is of particular note. This decorative and richly carved high altar similar to a tabernacle dates from around 1660 and is traditionally attributed to the Baroque sculptor Michael Lechleitner from Grins. A coffered ceiling with carved ornamentation decorates the square-shaped prayer room.

CHAPEL OF OUR LADY OF PERPETUAL HELP

This chapel was built in 1676 and then renovated in 1793 giving it the shape we see today. The curved gables are defining features of the chapel exterior. Of particular note inside the chapel is the altar with sculptures from the workshop of Josef Georg Witwer.

CHAPEL OF ST MARTHA

On 28th July 1995 the chapel of St Martha in Ischgl-Innerversahl was consecrated by four priests: the parish priest of Ischgl, Fr. Michael Stieber, retired priest Fr. Franz Haider, Fr. Robert Zangerl from Stams, and visiting priest Fr. Georg Henschling. The consecration ceremony was the crowning moment of an initiative by the women of Ischgl who, two years earlier, had decided to rebuild a chapel on the site of a hamlet, which consisted of a chapel, two farmhouses and a guesthouse, but had to be abandoned because of repeated flooding of the Fimba. Land was made available by the Municipality. Public donation and expert help, mostly from companies operating in the valley, meant work could start in June 1994 on the cylindrical chapel in undressed stone according to plans drawn up by Ladner Architects in Zams. The roof construction is a combination of a sphere and cylinder. The altar is decorated with a carved group of figures depicting Christ, Mary and Martha by Josef Jehle from Kappl. The colourful windows with lead tracery were designed by the teacher-artists Paul Zangerl, Bernhard Walser and Andreas Salner from Ischgl and were manufactured by Weiss of Landeck.

CHAPEL OF ST ANTHONY

The chapel of St Anthony in Versahl was magnificently restored in 1981 and is a typical chapel of the Paznaun. It was constructed as a plague chapel in 1630 to honour St Anthony of Padua and was extended in 1673. The main altar and the gallery, which is typical of the local style of the 17th century, date from around 1680. The focal point is a pietà by the illustrious sculptor Johann Ladner.

MORTUARY CHAPEL OF ST LUCIUS

Lucius is the Patron Saint of the Diocese of Chur. The mortuary chapel was built in 1773 to the northeast of the parish church and has an attractive, small, black, Rococo altar. Franz Hosp from Imst carved the four statues representing St Edmund, St Aloysius, St Stephen and St Lawrence. The altar painting and painting above it are by Christian Miller from Imst. There is a valuable pietà (ca. 1700) by Jakob Auer on the altar table.

CHAPEL OF THE FOURTEEN HOLY HELPERS

It is believed that the original chapel dedicated to the Fourteen Holy Helpers in the hamlet of Paznaun was located next to the river Trisanna. The chapel was damaged by high water in 1762 and destroyed in 1764 after further flooding. The site location of the original chapel was abandoned and in 1765 the current chapel was built on a more secure site. The main altar painting depicts Our Lady of Perpetual Help with the Fourteen Holy Helpers.

CHAPEL OF ST GALLUS

The chapel situated on the Oberpardatsch in the Fimba Valley is one of the few sacred buildings in the Tyrol dedicated to St Gallus. It was built in 1793 on the site of a small chapel built in 1736. Inside the chapel are a number of artworks, including an altar painting by Anton Schueller dating from around 1760.
