Code of conduct
Mountain bikers in Ischgl
Ischgl is pleased to be known as the Biker Eldorado and Freeride Paradise. To facilitate respectful cooperation and prevent dangers, a code of conduct must be observed.
Safety & equipment
The basic equipment required for every bike tour consists of a helmet, glasses, biking shoes, biking clothing and gloves. For difficult or fast trails, elbow, knee and spine protection and perhaps an integral helmet (full visor) are also recommended. In addition, you should carry a first aid kit, repair kit, necessary drink and snack reserves as well as maps or GPS navigation.
Material
Inspect your bike and equipment prior to every tour. Check the breaks closely as they can save your life. Air pressure, gears, spring system and chain also deserve extra attention. Keep in mind which bike is suited to the selected range of application.
Mental fitness & concentration
Only embark on a bike tour if your mind is fit for it as well. Fatigue and high alcohol level are to be avoided on a bike tour. Fast reactions are important on tours and trails. Do not let yourself be distracted by an MP3 player or a mobile phone conversation. It is a good idea to keep your mobile phone in your knapsack for emergencies.
Condition & riding technique
When selecting a tour, take into consideration what kinds of demands a route will place on you in terms of condition and riding technique. You should only go on longer tours with a lot of altitude differences if you posses the necessary stamina. Difficult and fast freeride routes are only recommended for those with a lot of experience on the bike and on the terrain. Ration your reserves and do not begin a kilometres-long downhill immediately after completing a long climb, take a break first.
Speed
Choosing the right tempo is a matter of adjusting to what happens on the bike route. Do not overestimate your abilities, ride ready to brake and always be on the lookout for possible obstacles. When in groups, keep an eye on slower and less experienced bikers to ensure that they do not get overextended.
Help in the event of accidents or breakdowns
Perform first aid insofar as possible. Start by safeguarding the site of the accident to keep other bikers out of harm’s way. Contact the rescue service (Tel.: 112) and initiate first aid measures. Help other bikers with mountain bike repairs as well.
Weather
Be mindful of mountain weather before and during the bike tour. Storm warnings must be taken seriously. In the event of imminent drops in temperature, seek a safe place as quickly as possible.
People
As a rule, hikers and all other people that you come across in the mountains have priority. Only pass them at walking speed. A friendly greeting is always in order when in the mountains.
Animals
Treat animals with care insofar as possible. Only bike in full daylight, close animal gates after going through them and pass grazing cattle at walking speed only.
Nature
Only ride on marked bike routes. No-riding signs must be observed. Leave the mountain the way that you found it. Particularly considerate bikers pick up the rubbish that other hikers or bikers carelessly left behind and take it into the valley.
