Church in Tyrol in Austria

The parish church of St. Nikolaus has always been at the heart of Ischgl. This church, dedicated to Saint Nicholas of Myra, dates back to the 15th century.

The parish church of St. Nikolaus in Ischgl has its origins in a chapel that was built in 1443. In the middle of the 18th century the church as we know it today was built in a Gothic style to replace the chapel. Upon entering the church the beautiful rococo altars and the precious rococo stucco from 1756 immediately catch the eye of the visitor. The stucco, consisting of intertwined leaves, is very rare for its period. The heart of the chapel is the silver reliquary containing the arm of St. Stephen that was brought to Ischgl in 1794. The church was renovated between 1972 and 1973.
