Blue Tour Nr. 1, Mathon circular valley trail
With more than 1,100 kilometres of cycling trails, Ischgl and the Paznaun valley are among the most diverse mountain bike regions of the Alps. There are a wide range of trails from easy day trips and family excursions on two wheels in the valley itself, to day tours and marathons to summits more than 3,000 metres above sea level, and enduro tours originating at cable car stations. The Mathon circular valley trail belongs to the first category - a short circular trail perfectly suited to explore the Paznaun valley in Tyrol on the day of your arrival. The circular trail is perfect for mountain bike beginners and families with children. Exceptional stamina and cycling experience are not required. Cycle to Mathon on tarmac roads and gravel trails over gently rolling hills - and back to your point of origin via the other side of the valley on the Mathias Schmid Kunstlehr trail - an artist's trail where paintings of the Tyrolean master give an insight into the Tyrolean way of life.
Blue Tour Nr. 2, Galtuer circular valley trail
A slightly longer and slightly more demanding circular trail takes you to Mathon on the Paznauner Talweg trail and continues to Galtuer on a gravel road. Enjoy the wonderful views of the village in Jamtal and the majestic peaks of the Silvretta mountain range from the scenic trail. Stop for a snack in Galtuer before following the roaring Trisanna mountain river to Tschafein. Return to Ischgl on a well-tended gravel trail. Experience the Ischgl Trailground at the end of the Mathias Schmid trail - practice your balance, skill on the bike and your first jumps here during your bike holidays in Tyrol!
Red Tour Nr. 3, Lareinalpe Alpine chalet
The Lareintal valley lies to the west of Ischgl between the Fimbatal and Jamtal valleys. The only building in this idyllic valley is the Lareinalpe chalet - the destination of this slightly strenuous but technically easy tour - that invites you to stop for a bite in the summer. The Paznauner Talweg trail takes you to the entrance of the valley. Then your mountain bike expedition continues on a gravel trail to the Alpine pasture. Decide whether you want to cycle further into the valley to enjoy the mountain scenery of Lareinferner Spitze mountain or back to Ischgl after indulging in hearty Tyrolean specialities. A marvellous tour to start your mountain bike holidays in Ischgl.
Red Tour Nr. 27, Ischgl Ironbike 01
This short circular trail offers a first insight into the Ischgl Ironbike mountain bike marathon. This hardcore marathon classic has attracted mountain bike enthusiasts to the bike trails in Tyrol since 1989. This short circular trail to Galtuer via the Lareinalpe Alpine pasture has been an option for mountain bike marathon beginners since 2003. The difference in altitude of 700 metres on the 27 kilometre trail gives a first insight into the world of mountain bike marathons. An especially attractive section of the scenic trail is waiting as reward! Join the mountain bike fun during your bike holidays in Ischgl!
Some mountain bike experience is recommended for the Stafali trail. After the ascent to the Lareinalpe Alpine pasture the trail leads down to the Stafaliweiher pond in the middle of a forest - with fireplaces for barbecues. The Stafaliweg trail above the pond is only half a meter wide - but perfectly groomed by the guides. After your descent to Galtuer the Talweg trail takes you back to Ischgl. Why not practice your mountain bike skills at the Ischgl Trailground on your way back to your holiday residence?
This intermediate tour with a difference in altitude of 800 metres around the Kopssee reservoir lake is perfectly suited for all who already have some mountain bike experience. The ascent from your starting point in Galtuer town centre leads over a small tarmac road. After overcoming a moderate difference in altitude the circular trail around the idyllic lake starts with a level gravel road - indulge in some leisurely cycling before a short but challenging ascent leads you to the dam of the reservoir lake. Enjoy the views before making your way back.
Red Tour Nr. 8, Friedrichshafener Hütte Alpien chalet
Friedrichshafener Hütte Alpine chalet is a friendly mountain restaurant built of natural stone approximately 700 metres above Mathon. It welcomes visitors with a wonderful panoramic sun deck. Do not miss the marvellous views of the summits of the Silvretta mountain range. A hearty snack, tasty piece of homemade cake and cool drink are a just reward after the ascent around the hairpin bends of the gravel trail. There are several options for your descent depending on your mountain bike skills. If you prefer a leisurely ride, take the gravel road. Or you might want to try a wild ride to test your skills? Take the forest trail back to Mathon! This is cycling fun during your mountain bike holidays in Tyrol.
Red Tour Nr. 15, Paznauner Taja Alpine chalet
Do you want to test your skill and your stamina on a strenuous trail? Take the tarmac road with its 20% incline to the Idalp Alpine pasture on the Prennerhang slope. A 20 kilometre trail with 1,100 metres difference in altitude is waiting for you. If you'd prefer your bike holidays in Tyrol to be a bit more laid back the cable car will conveniently take you to the Idalp Alpine pasture. From there the Supertrail will take you over lush mountain pastures. The moist grass and wooden planks on the trail demand a good sense of balance. A short and very steep trail leads from Hoellboden to Sassgalun Kopf mountain (it is recommended you push your bike on this section). From there the Soul-Trail will lead you to a dairy station. A nice gravel road will take you to the Paznaunter Taja Alpine chalet. The bike trails in Tyrol will spoil you for choice: venture on the wild ride of the trail or take the gravel road to the Bodenalpe Alpine pasture. From there exciting trails or a convenient tarmac road will guide you past the middle station of the cable car back to Ischgl.
40 kilometres, a difference in altitude of 1,100 metres and marvellous views of the mountains: a cycling highlight for racers and bike tour enthusiasts. The Jamtal valley - extremely popular with mountaineers - offers a perfect combination of easily manageable gravel roads, breathtaking views of the Jamtal-Gletscher glacier and a rustic mountain chalet - the Jamtal Hütte chalet - which invites you to stop for a snack before your descent on gravel roads.
Red Tour Nr. 16, Heidelberger Hütte chalet
The Heidelberger Hütte mountain hut is a popular destination for cyclists during their mountain bike holidays in Ischgl. Hundreds of transalp bikers enjoy the ascent from Ischgl every day in summer to then continue their journey to the Engadin region over Fimbapass mountain pass. There is a very steep tarmac road for all who want to prove their stamina. Holidaymakers may prefer to take the cable car to the middle station. A well-groomed tarmac road takes you to the Bodenalpe Alpine pasture - your first opportunity to stop for a bite - and then on to the Heidelberger Hüttechalet (which is across the border in Switzerland). Enjoy the unique views of Fluchthorn mountain in front of you. After treating yourself to a hearty snack take the gravel road and then the easily manageable mountain bike trail on the left bank of the Fimbach mountain river back. There are gravel and tarmac roads for all who do not yet feel ready to venture out on mountain bike trails.
Red Tour Nr. 30, Diasalpe Alpine pasture
Why not start your excursion to the Diasalpe Alpine pasture from Ischgl? Follow the Talweg trail to Kappl and then the moderately steep gravel road to the Diasalpe Alpine pasture. Indulge in regional specialities such as Kasnockn Suppe (a cheese dumpling soup) before plunging down the bumpy forest and pasture trail to Ulmich (an intermediate mountain bike trail). Alternatively, take the gravel road back to Ischgl during your bike holidays in Tyrol.
Red Tour Nr. 10, Heilbronner Hütte chalet
Manfred Immler, your host at the Heilbronner Hütte mountain hut, offers a warm welcome to mountain bikers on their way from Oberstdorf to Riva. You will find many like-minded fellow cyclists at the Heilbronner Hütte chalet during your bike holidays in Ischgl. The trail leads from Galtuer to the Kopssee reservoir lake at the Zeinisjoch ridge at 1,822 metres above sea level and then to the chalet on an easy gravel road. Only the final few metres are steep, but once you see the hut the worst is behind you. The descent is almost the same as the ascent, although there are shortcuts via mountain bike trails to the Verbella Alpe Alpine pasture and Lake Zeinissee to Galtuer.
Black Tour Nr. 18, Zeblas trail
An extremely beautiful mountain bike trail - the highlight of your mountain bike holidays in Ischgl and a great alternative for transalp bikers who prefer a fun variety of terrain instead of the strenuous ascent to the Heidelberger Hütte chalet. It is possible to overcome the ascent to Idjoch ridge on a mountain bike, but why not take the cable car? After pushing the bike to Greitspitze mountain you will reach the Greitspitztrailat mountain ridge with fantastic panoramic views. Continue on the Salaaser trail to the Zeblasjoch ridge and finally follow the Zeblas trail down to the Gampenalpe Alpine pasture. A 9.5 kilometre trail, not too difficult, but still a sporty challenge. There are some opportunities to combine trails (for instance tour 16 to the Heidelberger Hütte chalet. Stop for a bite to eat before descending to the valley via the Bodenalpe Alpine pasture.)
Black Tour Nr. 17, Höllspitze mountain
The tour to Höllenspitze mountain is perfectly suited for mountain bikers looking for their first experience of mountain bike trails in the high Alpine area. Conquering the difference in altitude of 1,400 metres to the Hohe Idjoyh ridge at 2,735 metres above sea level on a bike is only recommended for cyclists in peak physical condition. Cable cars and chair lifts are available. Even the start of the tour is pretty strenuous. After the first incline to the summit of Greitspitz mountain at 2,867 metres above sea level it is highly recommended you push your bike. But then the highlight of your mountain bike holidays in Tyrol is waiting for you: the perfectly groomed Greitspitz trail at the mountain ridge separating Austria and Switzerland down to Palinkopf mountain with its unique view of the Alps. A wide gravel road along the ski piste around Höllspitze mountain takes you to Ischgl via Höllboden and the Prennerhang slope.
Black Tour Nr. 27, Ischgl Ironbike 02
Fantastic mountain bike trails in Tyrol: the second loop trail of the Ischgl Ironbike leads form Ischgl town square in front of the valley station of the Sivrettabahn cable car over the Prennerhang slope to the middle station of the cable car. An incline of up to 20% make the steep tarmac road to the Idalp Alpine pasture at 2,308 metres above sea level a challenge. After ascending a further difference in altitude of 280 metres over a gravel trail you get to the Velillscharte from where the Velill trail leads past the Vellillalpe Alpine pasture back to Ischgl. This trail, developed by Hans Rey and enhanced by Trail Solutions' Christian Piccolruaz is easily accessible by cable car from the Idalp Alpine pasture for tour bikers, saving you the agonisingly steep ascent.
Black Tour Nr. 19, Fuorcla Val Gronda
This is an even harder version of the trail to Zeblasjoch ridge - harder but even more rewarding: after an ascent to Idjoch ridge (either by the power of your own muscles on two wheels or by cable car) you take the same trail to Zeblasjoch ridge as in tour 18, but veer off to the left to the Fuorcla Val Gronda. A narrow trail through coarse rubble and boulders reminiscent of a lunar landscape forces you to push your bike over a 200 metres altitude difference. Why should anyone put themselves through that? Simple, a marvellous mountain bike trail begins at the Fuorcla (the border with Switzerland) with breathtaking views of Fluchthorn mountain and the Heidelberger Hütte mountain chalet. Indulge in local specialities at this mountain hut and whizz back into the valley on a gravel road to the Gampenalm Alpine pasture and a beautiful trail on the left bank of the Fimbach river - a perfect end to a tour along 11.5 kilometres of single-trail tracks.
Black Tour Nr. 13, Schönverwall
Attention marathon bikers! A 86 kilometre trail is waiting for you during your bike holidays in Ischgl. Schönverwalltal between St. Anton and the Heilbronner Hütte chalet is generally frequented by transalp bikers heading south. Cycling north is much more fun! After a long ascent over a gravel road to the Heilbronner Hütte chalet you enter the coarse gravel of the Verwall trail leading down to the valley. Travelling in the opposite direction you would have had to push your bike! Glide down to St. Anton from the Schönverwall Hütte chalet on a long gravel road and take the shuttle (bus or taxi) back to Ischgl or to continue your cycling tour to Landeck. If you want to cover the entire distance on your mountain bike - an altitude difference of 600 metres is waiting for you after See in the Paznaun valley. A real marathon!
Black Tour Nr. 20, Salaaser trail
The black tour Salaaser trail is a demanding tour perfectly suited for all who want to try out enduro cycling during their bike holidays in Ischgl. Sports fans have the opportunity to take on the strenuous cycling trip to the Idalp Alpine pasture. But why not take the cable car during your bike holidays in Tyrol? Push your bike the short distance to the summit of Greitspitze mountain, where the beautiful Greitspitz trail leads to Salaaser Kopf mountain where the Salaaser trail branches off to the east. This trail demands skill and some experience. Take the chair lift at the ski station to Flimjoch mountain - the ski piste is simply too steep to attempt. Enjoy pure mountain bike fun on the Velill trail (Tour 23) on your way back to Ischgl.
Black Tour Nr. 25, Samnaun valley
A difference in altitude of 2,638 metres along a 44 kilometre trail - the Samnaun circular trail is a dream for hardcore marathon enthusiasts, whose hearts leap with joy at the prospect of steep gravel tracks. For them the ride to the Idjoch ridge is a matter of honour. Their reward? Whizzing down the ski piste to the Alp Trida Alpine pasture and along the high speed gravel road to the Samnaun valley. However tax-free shopping is not awaiting them, but the next murderous ascent up the extremely steep gravel road to the Zeblasjoch ridge. The last slope to Palinkopf mountain is especially challenging before it goes back to the valley.
Black Tour Nr. 26, Fimberpass mountain pass
Fimbapass mountain pass - a legend. In the old days the farmers carried their deceased to the cemetery of Ramosch in the Engadin. Today this is mountain bike territory. Thousands pass over the Fimbapass mountain pass and stop for something to eat at the Heidelberger Hütte chalet. Experience a great downhill trail and access to the fascinating Val d’Uina ravine. But how do you get back to Ischgl during your bike holidays in Tyrol? Take the cable car to the middle station, continue your trip to the Heidelberger Hütte chalet, over the mountain pass to Ramosch. Take the bike trail to the border, the road to Samnaun and the cable car back to Ischgl. And if 85 kilometres is too much for you take the shuttle from Ramosch to Samnaun and save yourself 40 kilometres.
Black Tour Nr. 27, Ischgl Ironbike 03
Bike holidays in Tyrol: the third circular trail of the Ischgl Ironbike starts with the same trail as the second to the Idalp Alpine pasture. At the Velillscharte the trail branches off and a steep gravel road leads to the Idjoch ridge at 2,738 metres above sea level. Here the fantastic third Ironbike circular trail begins: after a short distance of pushing your bike you reach the Greitspitz trail at the ridge that leads to Salaaser Kopfmountain. Take some time to enjoy the marvellous views. Now follow the easy terrain of the Salaaser trail which leads to the Alp Trida Alpine pasture in Switzerland. After a cool downhill trail ascend the steep gravel road to the Zeblasjoch. From there glide down the trail round Höllspitze summit to Ischgl.
